Smart reels falling apart

Has anyone else had a smart reel fall apart on them? I got a reel of the carbon-fibre PETG and when I took it out of the zip-lock bag the rel had separated into two halves, with the centre bit loose between them. It looked like the reel had been overloaded by the amount of filament and forced the two halves apart.

In the end I took the centre bit out and managed to hold the two halves together enough to tape them together on the inside, and I'm using an a-frame spool holder (with the separate smart centre bit clicked on the printer). I did try respooling the filament onto another reel but it snapped pretty quickly. I'm just hoping that there's no tangles in the spool - it's printing fine at the moment though.

Never had this happen before with previous smart reels - they all seem solid, and most of them I've respooled with TitanX or nGen.

I have had one or two do that. It usually means they didn't get enough adhesive into the joint between the two halves. It isn't common; you are the first person I can remember reporting it in several years.

We have noticed this with a current supplier. We have asked that they change the process to prevent it and will reject reels which are deformed by the filament loading process. If you notice this with a new reel you can return it to us for refund or replacement.

If deformed it might not turn freely or may effect the ability to read the EEPROM on the SmartReel. The reel breaking is annoying and there is potential for a tangle but the filament is still usable.
